You are at the Water-authority office

Every day, Noorderzijlvest Water Authority works on a safe, sufficient, clean, and healthy water supply in Groningen, north and central Drenthe, and a small part of Friesland. We manage locks, weirs, pumping stations to drain water, and regulate low or high water levels. We also treat wastewater generated by over 400,000 residents and many businesses. Without water authorities, more than 50% of the Netherlands would be underwater.

Working together on water

At our head office, we prepare our water-management work. We can’t do this alone. We work together extensively with other government agencies, local partners, and, where possible, residents to address the challenges of climate change and make our region future-proof. This is where our democratically elected Board of Directors meets and takes important decisions on water levels, proposed projects, and major investments related to our water-management work.
